Bus services between beaches

Why isn’t there a bus service between beaches such as Patong and Karon, or Patong and Kamala? Is this situation another case of bowing to the will of tuk-tuk drivers, who seem to own this island?

We are unable to provide bus services from beach to beach because the journeys are short and we already have local bus services for longer journeys between districts. If a bus service operates over journeys that are covered by district buses, there will an overlap that could threaten the survival of the district service. Also, many tourists use the tuk-tuks rather than buses because tuk-tuks are easier to find and they have private seating. Tuk-tuks are also smaller than local buses, so they are easier to park in busy tourist areas and do not add to traffic congestion. We are trying to improve the tuk-tuk service by monitoring drivers and placing a service rating on the side of each vehicle.
