Changing house registration
My Thai wife and I are returning to Thailand and she wishes to be removed from her mother’s house registration papers (tabien baan) she does not get along with her mother at all, and does not want to have anything to do with her family. How can she get new house papers? Must she own the land the house papers refer to? Can we get a copy of the old house papers from the government, without having to see her mother? Can she own land if we give notice to the Thai government that she is married to me, a US...

If she wants her name removed from her mother’s house registration, she can transfer her name to the papers of the new place where she will reside. She does not need to own the house it could be that of a relative or a friend. To get a copy of the old tabien baan, she can go to the District Administrative Office and submit a request for a copy of the document. She must go in person. The copy of the tabien baan is valid for 30 days.
