Weekly fresh markets (‘talad nat’)

Why are most of the fresh markets in Phuket held at dusty, dirty or muddy sites without any facilities for either market vendors or shoppers? Also, why is the road leading to the talad nat in Patong so full of bumps and potholes, making it a hazard for everyone visiting the market?

This is a very difficult problem to control. My municipal officers tell them to keep the market clean and tidy, but they [the stall vendors] just ignore them. The best thing that I can do for now is to keep a watchful eye on it so it doesn’t get out of control. I should like to ask everyone in this town to do his or her part in taking care of our province. I hope I have more success with this problem than I’ve had so far and I thank you for your complaint.
