Importing food

I’m leaving for Germany within the next three weeks and would like to bring some food (cheese/sausages) for my personal use on my return. May I do this? And is the mad cow disease problem regarded as settled?

You should complete a Customs Declaration Form before going through Customs, and you should go through the Red Channel (Goods to Declare). If the items you declare are for personal or profession use, and the quantity is considered appropriate for those uses, then you will not have to pay import duty. You may bring meat into the country from Germany, but for personal consumption only. Mad cow restrictions apply only to meat imported for business purposes.
