Foreign companies paying staff in Thailand

I have a company in Sweden and I want to start importing goods from Thailand. I would like to hire a Thai to run my office in Phuket. Would my Swedish company be allowed to pay my Thai employee’s salary, or does a Thai company have to pay him?

There is no need to start a Thai company to pay your Thai staff; your Swedish company can do it. However, you must first obtain permission from the Thai Ministry of Commerce. In addition, the employee must pay Thai income tax because the work is done in Thailand.
