Bar safety regulations
On my last trip to Patong I went to a bar that had just opened. I cannot imagine that this bar is built according to safety regulations. Inside, it is square and can hold about 400 people but there are only two small tunnel-like entrances. There is not one emergency door in the whole building and the two small entrances are not even a meter wide, which means they would very easily be blocked if there were some kind of panic. Officers have to check all premises for compliance with construction permission to see whether the structure has been altered or whether changes have been made that are not allowed in the building permit. If the officers find that illegal alterations have been made, those responsible will be charged with offenses under the Building Control Act. Anyone wishing to file a complaint about a bar suspected of contravening the regulations can contact Patong Municipality or send a letter to Patong Municipality, Kathu, Phuket 83150, or call us at Tel: 076-342079.
