Driving license translation
Where can I get an English translation of the Thai drivers license? I understand an official translation may be available, and it would be a backup for my current USA license.
I am a US citizen, but I rarely go back to the US. My current California driver's license will soon expire, and I would like to use my Thai driving license (which is valid in the USA) when (and if) I return.
However, I’m not sure how the California Highway Patrol would react if I showed them my Thai driving license, in Thai.
Also, when can I extend my Thai driving license? Some people have...

You can get an English translation of your Thai driving license from the registration department of the PPTO.
You should bring your Thai driving license and a copy of it, along with a completed request form (available from the PPTO) and the fee, which is around 50 baht.
As regards renewing your Thai license, if you have only a temporary license, which is valid for one year, we cannot issue a new license until the day the old one expires.
However, if you have a five-year license, you can renew it as much as three months before it is due to expire.
The PPTO is at Saphan Hin, next to Phuket Polytechnic College. The address is 42/4 Rattanakosin 200 Pi Rd, Muang, Phuket 83000, email: [email protected]
