PHUKET: Motorists heading to Phuket over the New Year holiday have a new place to take a break from long hours on the road: a Phuket Highway Police box on Thepkrasattri Road.

Available free of charge, 24 hours a day, at the Muang Mai Highway Police box are tea and coffee, clean restrooms and toilets, foot massages and even a putting green, said Col Terdkiat Wiriyasatidkul, Superintendent of Phuket Highway Police Subdivision 7.

Students from Thalang Technical College are providing free vehicle checks, and students from the Phuket Skills Development Center are offering free foot and body massages, he added.

Two tents have been pitched on the grass beside the police box, located near the turn-off to Phuket International Airport, so drowsy drivers can catch some sleep before getting back behind the wheel, said the colonel.

The free services were launched yesterday, coinciding with the first day of the 'Seven Days of Danger' national road safety campaign.

“During this period many tourists come to the island to celebrate New Year’s Eve and for a vacation during the high season. They have to use Thepkrasattri Road, which we are responsible for,” Col Terdkiat said.

“I don’t want any accidents to happen, so these services will help relieve stress and refresh bodies. We welcome anyone, anytime,” he said.

The services will continue until January 4.

What a great provision during a very bad time of year on the roads! Foot rubs? I think I'm feeling a bit (yawn) tired already. And I can see the police are hard at work, again. Maybe theyre tired of all that... um, er, working at enforcing traffic laws (scoff/guffaw). Is that putting green for them or for weary travellers?

Please stop making fake news about police is doing good things, because it's not the truth. Make news about what they need to do and don't do. Look arround us 24/7; it's the biggest problem we have besides corruption.
